I'm interested in this CO trip, but it will depend on timing and whether my wife and I are on the road in our RV. I'll keep watching this thread. Idaho also sounds very interesting to me, but that too will depend on timing and on whether it's just a dual sport trip or will include SxS trails. Idaho has a ton of trails.

I talked with the owner of a resort/park in Lake City Co. last week about our ride in the Silverton/Durango/Lake City area.
She stated that they are packed thru the last week of August and until labor day. Most folks come to that area with the family June-July and August. They tend to be sold out until Kids go back to school and vacations are over. Lots of jeep and bikes with that crowd, kids and look-e-loos. The trails and motels see the most people/traffic during June-July and August.
In asking the best times to come she strongly suggested - "after the vacations and labor day groups have gone". Her advice was 2nd or 3rd weeks of September. After the 4 week of September they get into the heavy traffic of the leaf change (fall) traffic. Labor day will be on Monday Sept 6th in 2021.
Rates usually go down after the labor day groups leave.
I started discussing this with fellow forum members on the Yamaha Wolverine site I'm also on several mts. ago. They have made this trip several times in the last few years. Several of the members also strongly suggest the weeks after labor day as the best choice for our trip. They also said the vacationers have left, rates drop, restaurants are not as full, trails are open with less novice traffic, and the scenery is great if the leave start changing early.
My vote is for the middle of September.
Bob, could you add those weeks to your spread sheet.

Just my $.02 on 30’ trailer. Generally the axles are not the biggest issue. The issue is tires. Can always upgrade to 235/75/15 LT tires for more capacity. Many far heavier tpyhaulers are running LT tires of that size and have zero issues. My 30’ Wolfpack ran Hercules LT of that size and tires/axle was zero issue. The thing to remember is LT tires are way overbuilt since they must meet more requirements for passenger loads and highway 70 mph plus speeds. Trailer tires are always crap since the weight rating has minimal safety factor (no passengers) and are rated at 55mph. Even the biggest load years ago was close to axle stated capacity. The tongue carries some weight so 8000 lbs with trailer is not a huge issue. I personally don’t see spending $$ for new axles. Now if you really do want to Upgrade axles they can be found reasonable on eBay and at some trailer parts supply sites. If anyone is traveling to TX this full upgrade can be picked up for $1200 www.ebay.com/itm/283743788204

I agree with Randy don’t think the axles are the issue with the weight being carried but if you want to upgrade I’ll contribute.

It is not necessarily the axles but the weldment of the shackles, they need re-enforced. It was a shackle that broke loose on the way to AZ

When a tire blows it rips all kinds of stuff out. That’s likely what broke the shackles.
Wouldn’t hurt to pay a couple hours of welding labor to reinforce. Then install some LT tires.
