Attached Pic shows Alpine Loop in relation to Taylor Park. Alpine Loop is only 63 - 91 miles depending on what you include. I have emailed the Funtreks guys I know to get their opinion on other stuff in the are.

I've looked into it and am not going. 2/3's is dirt road cars can go on, the loop is only 63 miles, very limited as to what towns you can ride in. The scenery is very nice.

Here is the response I got from Matt at Funtreks. These are the guys that were going to ride the Arizona Peace Trail with us but had to back out at the last minute. Matt Peterson 8:12 AM (1 hour ago) to me Bob, I would stage out of Silverton if you can. Several rv parks available and it is the friendliest ohv town of them all. There are well marked designated routes in Silverton and Lake City. 3 days to cover the trails there if you move fast, but there is so much beauty you will want to stop all the time. Lake City has made arrangements for ohvs to complete the loop using a portion of the hwy. Get this and download some tracks from our site. funtreks.com/product/off-highway-map-silverton-ouray-lakecity/Matt

Just got this today form one of the guys I talked with earlier in the year. Bob T. The guy on the Yamaha forum Named Papa Sketter knows you thru the map making deal. He is or has sent you some tracks from the Alpine Loop area and the other connecting trails.
Bennett,
The Alpine Loop is a lot of fun and I highly recommend the trip. The actual loop is abut 80ish miles but all of the other trails connecting to it add an additional couple hundred miles. We unfortunately had to cancel our 2020 trip but we did 450 miles in 2018 on the loop and about 400 in 2019. Some trails are more technical than others.
I would reccommend staying in Silverton if possible as there were more trail heads coming from that side of the mountain. There was also more food/entertainment options in Silverton. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask. We are already planning our 2021 trip!

Kevin, the Funtreks guys also recommend Silverton. I just talked to the Silverton Chamber of Commerce and they confirmed their is a legal trail from Silverton to the Alpine Loop. Not so in Ouray.

I think Idaho will be the next big ride destination for me, looks to be a lot of good trails out there.

I’m up for the Silverton ride. I would also look for the Durango/Silverton train excursion.

Our Family did the Durango to Silverton train ride. Open air, wooden benches, coal dust blowing into train, beautiful scenery. Ouray has some hot spring pools that were great, each pool had a higher temperature.
