I am hoping this report restarts a tradition that attracted me to this club/forum in 2018 and that are ride reports. Everyone use to post ride reports which I really enjoyed. They were helpful in knowing who was riding, interesting things to see and trail conditions. If you look there have been only 2 'Ride reports' posted in 2023...Hopefully that changes in 2024.
Here are updates from our first day of this 3 day trip:
Myself, David, Luke and his 17 year old son are staying at an Airbnb a few houses down from Asland Company Store. I had planned on taking everyone to the train trestle and tunnel and was going to ride some of the blue trails from Jakes Grocery to Crumpler Mountain Resort and then PC 28 over to the train trestles... unfortunately all of these blue trails are either gated or blocked... Jakes Grocery trail has a yellow gate, Lick Branch has a pile of dirt blocking the entrance, Buzzard Branch has a concrete block, Buzzard Branch red trail has a yellow gate. We had to take the PC30 connector trail which put us at Tinys.. since Luke loves the beer can alley and creek trails he convinced me to try it. It has been 5 years since I have been through there and I agreed. WHAT A MISTAKE. I knew it was bad but it is terrible. We made it just fine but we had to get out at least 3 times to view the different lines so we would not get stuck or roll over or both. Finally made it through and to the train trestles.
Overall a fun day except for the block trails. I plan on calling Bob and discuss the blocked trails.
