Guys, Looks like Midland Radios finally figured out they were missing out on Side-by-Side mobile radio sales. They came out with one of their own at a very attractive price. midlandusa.com/product/micromobile-2-way-radio/Amazon has this for $129. I'm buying one. AmazonLarry

The Midland MXT100 manual I found online does not say its waterproof. Remember, you are either plugging this unit into the cigarette lighter socket or directly wiring it to your 12 volts. I'm going to place the unit under the hood where it won't get wet. I have had issues where the microphone on my current has gotten wet and wouldn't work. I carry an extra mic for that. Larry

It's only 5 watts. The ones we have been getting for the same price are 25 watts.

Bob - My current one is 25 watts too, but last time I went riding with you, you were having problems hearing me. That concerned me, especially if others couldn't hear me. I'm going to try the Midland MXT100 mobile radio. I'll do a review after using it a few times.

Looking forward to seeing it. Great price but low on power. My mic also has done issues with water but dries out fine. I have the issue only after towing up to Hilltop in pouring rain.
I also hear some people great and some barely. Not sure why.

Where are you guys getting 25 watt radios with mic and mounting brackets for $129 or less? I've looked after reading Bob's post and have found nothing (new).

I did a comparison between my Kenwood TK-8150 25 watt radio and the new Midland MXT100 5 watt radio. The radios were inside my SxS and the SxS was inside my garage with the garage door open. My friend took his Midland GXT1000 walkie-talkie and stopped at a distance of .3, 1.0, and 1.5 miles. He used his walkie-talkie inside his automobile. There were trees and homes between us. At .3 miles I could communicate with my friend on both the Kenwood and Midland mobile radios. There was less reception static on the Midland compared to the Kenwood. My friend said the same thing on his walkie-talkie. At 1.0 miles, I could hear my friend much better on the Midland than on the Kenwood. He couldn't hear at all when I used the Kenwood. At 1.5 miles, my friend could hear me on the Midland but it had static and not at all on the Kenwood.
So the lowly 5 watt Midland MXT100 radio beat out the 25 watt Kenwood TK-8150. Go figure. I don't understand it. I even used the shorter antenna that came with the Midland radio.

Interesting to see a comparison like this, Larry. Good info! I read that a wiring harness is not included; what did you do or need to purchase in order to wire it?

A fused two wire harness came with the Midland radio. One end has a cigarette lighter plug in and the other end has a plug in for the radio. I used the cigarette lighter for the test. I will cut off the cigarette lighter plug in and directly wire it into a switched 12 volts. The radio is tiny. Lots more places to put it inside the SxS. Larry Attachments:

Lonnie - You're making me feel guilty . I'll have a slightly less powerful radio I won't need soon. You want it?

I'm just having fun with ya. If they work good I'll get me one for sure. Every radio I have had just does not last.
