Quick question for the WV experts.... I am planning my first trip to WV with my son this Friday. We are staying with a couple guys at Wagonwheel?? Anyway, my son is 14 and typically rides his dirtbike at CAW and Busco, but I noticed in the ride reports that there are never any dirtbikes. Is a dirtbike a bad idea for WV? Thanks for the help....

Depends on his skills and the weather. WV can be very muddy and that is not dirt bike friendly and requires great riding skills. There is also lots of rocks - large and small. Again it's all about the skills and where you decide to ride. I consider a simple ride like to Welch difficult on a dirt bike. There are a few spots that are very rutted and become slick and those will take great balance and throttle control.
If you take the dirt bike the worst case is you could always just hit the H&M green trails or try to stay on dirt/gravel roads.

Thanks Randy... That helps. He's ridden his dirt bike at Catfish Pond and Uwharrie that are both rocky and muddy, so I am hoping he will be ok. I'm assuming that the H&M trails are close to Wagonwheel?? I know absolutely nothing about that area, but am going with a few folks who have been before...

Randy's right, it's all about his skills. WV has a good mix of anything you may want but finding a trail without a little of everything is near impossible. Take your time starting out and see how he does, I've seen lots of small kids on dirt bikes but the group in normally going a safe pace and keeping a close eye on them. Give it a shot, he will love it.
