Some buddies and I are planning a trip to WV this fall, probably first full weekend of November. I've been seeing quite a bit of talk about the trails in the War area. Are there enough trails there to fill up 3 days of riding without riding the same trails multiple times? I've only ridden south of Rt. 52 a hand full of times and only once in that general direction when I rode from Hilltop to Gary. I'd really like to explore the area.
If we decide to explore the War area we're not sure where we are going to stay. We are not crazy about the idea of having to ride from the Wagon Wheel area all the way to War everyday to explore. Anyone know approximately how long it takes to get there on the trails? I seem to remember someone on here mentioning that you knew someone in the area that has a place for rent. Any info on that would be appreciated as well.

A lot of guys stay in Kimball and rent a house from clark rowes, randy or bob can chime in on how to get in contact. I stay in anawalt which is smack dab in the middle of both gary-hilltop. there is several days of riding between welch and war and even more south of war.

I thing you can definitely full up three days of riding in the Gary War area. I have uploaded Bob's trails on Google Earth which are on the website just click on the Google tab this will give you a good idea of the amount of trails in the area. If you have any questions you are welcome to call me. (828) 312-8045. I am from Hickory NC. Thanks

Dwayne, Clark's place is a convenient place to stay to ride that area. Under another thread in the Weekend Rides I posted a set of gpx tracks for the War area. From Clark's place you ride 52 to the Walmart and take the trails from Walmart to Gary to War. War has a great Coffee Shop and gas.

I went to War from Hilltop a few weeks ago. It was a 112 mile round trip for us. We started around 10am and got back to camper around 9:30pm. We stopped a few times for breaks about every 10 to 15 miles and had lunch at WalMart. Its a nice ride, but it is a long haul. Theres a very nice view on a mountain behind the Town of War. but be very careful cause it's steep, rocky and only wide enough for one atv/utv. Of course that depends on which way you go.

Thanks for the replies. We're going to get together Monday and figure out where we are going to stay. My guess is we'll stay in the wagon wheel area and just head out early one morning towards War.

One last question. Are all the trails near War outlaw trails or do you need Hatfield passes?
