I took my Sportsman into the dealer for annual service the other day. It has about 1300 miles on it. They said it needed brake pads and lower ball joints. They also said they would be happy to do the work for $750. I told them no thanks. Any recommendations on where to buy aftermarket brake pads and ball joints. Are there any aftermarket ball joints that hold up better than OEM?

Many of us use EBC severe duty brake pads - I buy mine at the local ATV dealer
As far as ball joints - I have no idea

$750 is stupid. All Balls ball joints, some decent sintered pads, and check out the bushings. If you are anywhere near Cornelius I can give you the name of the guy that does my wear and tear stuff I don't want to do.

Charlie the brake pads that you found on ebay seem to work well. I have used aftermarket ball joint on past machines and seemed to work also. Randy is right about the bushings. They are likely wore out too (out least the front ones). The back bushing seem to last longer.

I was under the impression the ATV's from Polaris were doing much better as far as bushings & Ball Joints, but see I was wrong. At 1300 miles you should not have to change ball joints --- had 2200 miles on my suziki and never had anything changed -- and on can am outlander atv -- was 5,000 miles before I did an Bering or ball Joint replacement; and I have 8,500 miles on it now and the bushings are still great. My commander and Larrys commander have over 2,000 miles and nothing changed but brake pads....
Hope you find the parts cheap and can install for the ride mid october

Thanks guys...I ordered a set of 4 All Balls ball joints and a set of Race-Driven brake pads. I should have it all ready for the Columbus Day weekend ride. Best of all, I used my wife's Amazon account...so it did not cost me a dime! I must be riding it too hard...it was not made to keep up with those Can-Am Commanders!

I put a set of Race-Driven brake pads on my can-am, lasting longer than the ones that came on it.

Heck my fender flares are even an issue on my Rzr. For some reason they keep breaking.

I finished the repairs last night. Replaced all three sets of brake pads. The rears were in fair shape, but the fronts were down to near nothing. Guess I will be replacing front brake pads ever 1K miles. Lower ball joints were definitely shot. Guess I will be replacing those ever 1K miles as well. Replacing the brake pads is way simple; takes about 10 minutes a pair. The ball joints take a little longer, but the process is pretty straight forward. All in all, it set me back about $100; better that paying the dealer $750.

Big savings and you know the job was done right and no bolts or nuts are going to fall off while riding, nice work Charlie!
