Upper Barney Lake Trail....in the snow!

Got home around 8:15 tonight. Nice 36 hr ride home.
Great trip. Not much exploring but rode some great trails with friends.
I did learn that Yamaha Grizzlies are very wide. One bent a rim hitting a 50" trail entrance post. Another got hung up on a different 50"opening. Funny stuff -- too bad I did not take pics. I still have the 1400 pics from 2008 and it looks the same...

Video #2.
Im not going to edit any of these yet. Some are long and boring but they'll give you a good idea of what the terrain and scenery is like.

We averaged between 11 and 12 mpg. Total cost of my trip was $1400.
I just finished changing the oil and cleaning air filter in Rincon. I see no damage so it's ready for next trip...

Gotta rest today Ken. I was exhausted last night.
Calculated my milage in Utah -- rode 674 miles on the Honda. Not bad for 6 days. Never a sore butt so I'm very impressed with the Honda seat. Now if I could get my KLX that comfortable.

Matt -- Yes Ken's jacket is fully padded. He still got hurt though. Through his back out leaning over to look at Bob's computer...
After that he said "I'm done". He then went with Bob to the local powersport store. Bob had his front driveshaft taken off his Polaris and Ken looked at a $30k Goldwing.

We got to Larry's house last night around 9:00, to my house around 10:00 and Grumpy got home around 11:45.
Had a great time and the truck ran fine except for one small problem. In the middle of nowhere, KS the alternator went out. We checked on our phones and found the nearest auto parts store was 32 miles ahead in Hays, KS. We called Carver/Randy and David/Kevin and found out that C/R were in Hays one exit away from the parts store. They went and bought me a new battery and alternator and brought it back to us and my pit crew got the battery and alternator installed in 30 minutes and we were on a way. A special thanks to Carver and Randy for adding an extra 1.5 hours to their trip to get us up and running.

Bob -- I'm glad Carver and myself could help out. Had it been 45 mins later all auto parts stores would have been closed. Your truck got a new alternator and battery. Carber's got a new water pump, coolant change, and coolant. Both got home better than when they left. The towing on Carver's would have been crazy high had he not had towing insurance through State Farm. Reminds me I need to renew my Allstate RV twing since it covers trailers. (The ATV trailer was over $200 to tow alone!) www.allstatemotorclub.com/amc/member_services/Promo.faces?PROMO_CODE=rvroadhelp&null

Doc and I got back around 3pm today. At our extended age we have to go slower and get enough rest, so we took the long way home. I did about 550 miles and I think Doc was in the 600 plus range. That ride up Barney Hill wore me out so I had to rest up on the way back to NC. Again my truck was around 15 mpg out and back, No Issues but I did throw a wheel weight and had to get a wheel rebalanced on the way out....no big problem. The ride up the mountain in the snow was the highlight of the trip. We rode up in virgin snow, up into the clouds for a great day of riding. The weather and the leaves turned out to be perfect. I did a lot more exploring, saw mountain goats being hunted up on the high peaks, saw Elk, Deer and 10,000 chip monks and Bob kill a squirrel that just couldn't make up his mind.
Hoovers was a great place to eat and hang out, we ran into a great group of "New Yorkers" also riding the area. "What a gang" of misfits.....you had to be there.
I got my big boy pants on and rode the infamous "Barney Lake Trail" but no pleading and prodding of Ken could get him to go see the donkeys at the coral down the road........guess some are skeert of vertical dirt and others of small gray donkeys.
Oh Yea. 50 inch gates are 50 inches. Wheels spacers and 26 inch tires are about the limit on my Grizz. Would be a tight fit for any thing other than a stock razor.....rangers and rhinos are out. I'll post up some pics later. kb

Ken -- I'm back at work today. Just thought I would let you know since you were concerned yesterday.
I wish I worked at home like many others. Then I could be planning another trip...
