Allen and I had us a good couple of days up at Hilltop. Rode about 200 miles in 2 days (97 and 99.5 if your counting). We got turned around ALLOT. It was one of those..."wonder where that goes?" kind of weekends. Lots of dead-ends, down trees, etc. but it was allot of fun. We rode allot of old trails I haven't been on in years, mostly because they don't lead to any buffets, restaurants or jiggly rooms! .
We did wind up in Welch at one point but for fuel only. Then we headed off behind the school and over to the Echman mine. Those trails are in rough shape and will be lost soon if people don't start riding them more. Really overgrown and LOTS of BIG trees down as someone had reported earlier. Many of them have go arounds but be warned, if you don't like hanging your !@#$ off the side of the mountain in a slick, off-camber type of deal, better either not go or better yet bring a chainsaw!
Sunday we took a pretty retarded route over to Pinnacle Creek, via the Gopher trail, Mini Steps, etc. Poked around PC for a while, got into town for fuel and then headed back via Spider Creek, Beartown and back up behind WW. BTW - There are a few old routes up behind Riders Paradise that aren't there anymore which added to my retarded return route....but it was fun.
Oh, and these are the only pictures I took. See, this was also a dry run for my Utah trailer setup. As everyone suggest, it was very scary and super treacherous. About half way up Fancy Gap one of the wheels fell off the trailer so I had to drag it the rest of the way on the axle, the trailer hitch bent up like a pretzel so I tied it back on with zip ties and then flames started shooting out of the cup holders which melted the ice in my frozen, low fat, iced cappuccino-frappe-latte....but besides that all went well! ;D
Proof I made it....
At least now I know I will at least make it as far as West Virginia. After that, all bets are off!
