I'm a tinkerer at heart. Playing with tools and poking around with mechanical stuff in the garage is enjoyable for me. I like reading manuals, taking stuff apart, figuring out how it works and (hopefully) putting them back together in working order. Its kind of an escape from my normal life of sitting behind a keyboard all day long and its just another part of the ATV hobby for me. When I go play in the garage no one bothers me, I can watch speed channel and not have to fight the wife for the remote because Housewives or Bachelors or Bacheloretts or some other nonsense is on. I can drink drink beer, smoke cigars and curse as loud as I want when I bust my knuckles on something. Life in the garage is good....I'd move out there full time if I could! BTW - total parts cost for this mess so far is about $80 and a six pack or two!

10-4, I knew y'all moved from downtown Cornelius at some point but I guess I didn't realize it was to Waxhaw. I thought you were still somewhere close to Cornelius. We were. We lived in Cornelius for about 2 years and then moved down here last September. We still own our house up there and are using it as a rental property now. Ok, cool! So are you telling us you are a slum lord now? ;D Yeah, right....we know how you roll!

Shaft would not come off gearbox on my 2006 800. I spent 20+ hours and then Bob came and helped and we spent maybe 5 hrs. Changing a ujoint while it's on the ATV is very difficult. The replacement ujoints being .010 too big just made it even more difficult. Bob saved the day on that one. I figured the screw holding the shaft to the gearbox basically pressed the shaft on. Time rusted the parts together. I now grease ujoints every two rides. Not gonna go through that chaos again. I'm a little slow on my mechanic'ing projects anyway. I've been there on a few that just kind of have you stumped because of lack of experience or lack of tools. I have to call for backup sometimes too. Internet is a great tool to figure some of the projects out though. I'm sure I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. It's ok that it takes you a little longer when you don't do that sort of thing for a living. But a 40 hour project......that one would have pissed me completely off. Great pesistence to conquer that one!

Ken is right, The garage is great. It is the mancave for me. Beer, cigars and tools! Y'all are brave with beer in the garage......I'd really screw stuff up then! I have a beer fridge in the garage but don't visit it until I'm reassembling or getting ready to test. I agree though that I love to tinker in the garage when I can. If I had air conditioning in there, It would be hard to get me to leave.

I agree with Matt -- the internet makes working on stuff so much easier. I'm tackling control arms on my wife's Jeep this weekend. $650 at dealer -- $170 if I do it myself. And the best part is I get to use my huge impact wrench!!! I can't wait....

Ken - I see your point --- I guess since I am not married and do not have kids is why I do not value time in my shop building -- I always have the house & remote to myself ---
And like I said hats off to you - that repair looks very complicated - sure I would screw something up if I tried
Randy -- I grew up in a house hold where you called "The Man" to fix everything --- so I did not have lots of experience working on things when I was younger. Wish I had!
