T, Try looking at the owners manual and see what size fuse the original 12v hookup used, the cig. hookup may have a built in fuse in the tip already. A better way to hook it up is with a waterproof / water tight type of connector with an in line fuse. Most boat supply stores have them. The cig. lighter plugs can often shake loose and cause bad connections. kb

Look at the GPS requirment for power as that is what you want to protect , but the item you are pluggin in should be fuse protected , most Cig lighter are direct connect to the battery and not fuse protected .

Teresa - I had a cig. lighter hook up already installed but added a switch with direct power from the batttery to power an added set of lights. I used all marine grade waterproff switch and connections. I have not had an issue so far and I ride through the creeks all the time.
As for the fuse - I ran the power out of the switch through my fuse box - the existing fuse box had open spaces for me to add another blade fuse. Now all my fuses are in the same place and the same type of fuses. I have never looked at a Honda fuse box but you might think about looking to see if you can add a fuse to it.
Good luck....

I used a cig lighter plug for my GPS and the vibration caused a lot of circuit on and off switching. I tightened the connection by enlarging the GPS plug with electrical tape so it wedged into the plug but I also put a lot of di-electric grease in the socket before taping over everything. No problems since that.
