Another GREAT weekend at Hilltop!
I arrived Friday at around 7pm. Tom and David B were just getting back from a ride so Allen and myself went out for a cruise of the HM trails. Nothing eventful except for a large black snake on the steep rocky part of trail 84. Snake tried to stare Allen down. If you have not ridden 84 recently give it a try -- erosion has made it a good black trail.
Saturday we split up into two groups. Allen, Greg, Joseph (Greg's Son), and myself went to the Beckley Tunnels/Subway. Rode a little over 130 miles. Great ride with plenty of explorin. We covered some of the Burning rock trails -- the trail up from the white church is pretty good. We explored some of the other trails in that area and I intentionally headed in the wrong direction from Hilltop. Still amazes me that no matter how you try to get lost there always seems to be another trail that leads back. We ended up back at the Citgo at Barkers creek at 6pm and decided to explore more around Barkers Creek. I crossed the bridge and headed by the power station. Hit some good trails. Decided to stop our exploring after rolling Greg's new Griz down a 30 ft rock filled drop off into a creek. Luckily Greg bailed off it and the Griz just had some minor damage. With Allen's winch and alot of pulling we were able to retrieve the Griz and continue a great ride. Before we went riding I mentioned that we would probably see that new Griz roll but I would have never guessed it would be in such a bad spot. Anyway I plan on exploring more in that area. We ride barker's Creek alot but never really do much exploring across from the Citgo.
Sunday I really did not ride. I rode with the group to Pinnacle Creek Diner and had some pancakes. They were headed out past the view after breakfast. I wanted to leave by noon so I called it a day and headed back to Hilltop.
I'm sure some other's will fill in the details. Joseph has pics and vid's of the Griz in the creek upside down. maybe we will get to see those...

Tom and I rode 26 mi Fri and about 75 each Sat and Sun. Greg, Joseph and Allen went with us Sun. We did some mapping for connectors to the existing map Bob is working on. We went to Pineville after finding all trails to Mullins now blocked with trees from loggers. Sun on return via the pinnacle creek trail we found two sxs submerged to the seat level and 4 kids from Princeton in a panic. Allen pulled out the Razr with his winch but it took the Razr, Allens Yamaha, and Toms Can-am together to get the other sxs out. No rain, some dust and great riding. The creek levels were down 10" from a month ago.

Well sounds like ya'll had a great time.Greg its better to go ahead and get that rolling thing and a little damage out of the way on your first ride so you don't have to worry about it later. Glad you weren't hurt and the damage was't too bad.

Greg did handle his wreck pretty well. By the time I got turned around he was walking up the trail carrying his helmet. I'm sure it made him a better rider. This weekend was sandals and shorts trails. Next time I'm gonna take him on some boots and long pants trails. Time to pick up the pace a little... LOL Then again that may be a bad idea since I'm pretty scratched up from all the briers and trees. My tripping and falling walking into Subway did not help either...

Yes it was a great weekend -- some dust but not too bad. Like Dave B said we rode Friday late day, Saturday with My Buss. partner & 2 friends, and Sunday with Greg W., His son Joseph & alan.
Alan was the real steep rocky trail we were on sunday 84 -- the same one Randy said you stared down the snake?
Also check where Dave posted about Huckleberry's -- a good place to eat south on hwy 52 a few miles from Northfork. We were going to eat at the Coffe Shop in Northfork but when we got there their power was out --- and we lucked out being told about Huckleberry's

I have been riding WV since 2007 with over five thousand miles logged with no problems. My first ride with Randy and I roll a brand new machine. I'm not going to say it was his fault, but. Many thanks to Allen and Randy helping me get it out of the hole.

Greg -- The but part was definitely true.... I have had 2 accidents with riders following me in the last month and I now think I understand. I am learning that since I ride a Can-am I should not expect that lesser machines will be able to ride the same trails without issue. I watched Allen struggle to learn to ride his Griz and I should understand that not everone has a Can-am and can just ride any trails they want. I hereby apologize for guiding lesser machines down trails that Can-am's ride without issue. I thought my riding in Sandals would slow the Can-am down enough but I guess not. I sent a certified letter to BRP today addressing the Can-am issue. I have hereby requested that BRP force their Can-am divison to make less capable machines so that riders of other brands can keep up and follow the same trails. Until Can-am responds I make the offer to hook the rear of my Can-am to the front of any other ATV so that they can keep up and ride the same trails. I am really irritated with the superior performance of my Can-am Outlander and hope that I can overcome this advantage. Please accept my sincere apologies. I just hope that no one will hold the Can-am advantage against me. I do really enjoy TTB. To conclude I think of the old Coke ad "Have a Coke and a smile". It makes me wonder "Is it wrong to smile when I look at my Can-am Outlander and hear the Rotax revving???" I just hope the the Power Steering and 990cc motor in my next Can-am will slow me down enough. That combination has to weigh more....

Randy, you have to admit the kid on the Yamaha 450 (with the 1/4 of hp of the mighty 800) was right behind you the whole way. Joseph loved the ride, he likes it fast.
I hope to get the pictures Joseph took, he is visiting a friend until Sunday. Hope he got a picture of the thorn bush from hell. I got the handle bars caught up in that bush and backed it up about 6 inches, when the trail cave in. The back end sled slowly off the side, it was a nice slow roll. I followed it until stopped. That was my first roll over, hopefully the last.
One day when I can handle it, I'll get a Can Am. Better start with a 500 and work up.

Joseph had no problem keeping up. He was right there the entire ride. I don't think it would be easy to leave him. The Griz 450 is a nice ATV and fits him well. You kept up pretty well also Greg. It was good ride other than the one spill. It could have happened to any of us.
Looking forward to the next ride...

Just to be honest I have laid my Can Am on its side, the only problem is getting the heavy thing back on all fours. I had to have help.

What really makes me mad is I paid extra for the special finish, I should of bought a plain jane blue. If you ride you get dings, but not a bunch on the first day.
Randy said the 450 fits Joseph, he wants my 700. He really wants a 800 Renegade, then everyone will trying to keep up with him.

Your Griz still looks great Greg. They all get scratches but the SE looks better even scratched. Your Griz still looks like new even after the roll.
As for Joseph having a Renegade 800 -- that's a lot of power for a 15 yr old. As full of energy as he is the Gade would allow him the chance to get hurt easily due to the increased speed opportunities.

David, my wife forwarded your tracks to me. I will make a new map this weekend with all of the new tracks you have sent me. You are doing and excellent job and using that NUVI like no one else. I have removed the other Wpt near Tiny's, I do not show the flag for the view, I think that is on old map or track. I am cleaning your tracks and if you or anyone else has a name suggestion for them let me know, I have just been naming them Track1, etc. We need some cool names.
I cannot access any of my file sharing sites from over here, I do have a company ftp site that I can put them on and give limited access to. I can email tracks but the maps are .exe files that get blocked.
