I had my oil changed and Reacon tuned up at a local Atv dealership, they strip out the threads the oil plug goes into .
It would screw in but not tighten and it leaked..
I went the auto parts store and got me a self tapping bolt.I was very worried about getting metal shaving in the Reacons oil since it has no oil filter. So after making new threads,I wash out the oil pan with a some Diesel fuel and followed it up with some unused oil from passed oil changes.
I could see the shavings draining into the used oil collection pan ,when I worked at Ingersol Rand I saw first hand what a few shavings could do to and air end /engine if I missed any it would be expensive.
Then I fill the Reacon with 1.6 qts,ran it for an hour and changed it again. No problems since.......

Main reason I do my own maintance . Most of these guys in shops don't make good money , the owners do, and they really get rode hard to do as many as possible to keep the profit up . Next time you have tap a bolt like that , use a Magnet on the end of the bolt to attract the shavings and put grease on the inside to also collect the shaving, should not be a problem then.

Drew, the trick with selftapping bolts like that is to load the threads with wheel bearing grease. The shavings will stick in the grease and come out when you back the bolt back out.
I always screwed in 1/4 to 1/2 cutting increments, removed, cleaned and redid untill it was totally tapped thru.

Sounds the same to me Brian , I just suggested a Magnet ( all mine have Magnets inside already to catch Metal ) .

Theres a magnet built into my plug to catch them, but that's no good if you have to change plug size's.
