I just purchased a Commander 1000 XT-P on Friday. Took it to CAW for the weekend for 10 hour ride on the dirt roads and baby tracks. Do these things have trouble with the power steering? Mine ran fine for 35 minutes then the engine light came on and screen starts saying check DPS and the power steering was gone. Called the store they said it was cause it was over heated. Every time I start it after cooling off it works fine for about 5-15 minutes then same thing every time. Stops working completely and want work again till it cools off. This has got to be something screwed up and I am taking it back to the dealer Tuesday when they open. But anyone ever had this happen. because it is going to be hard to reproduce unless they drive it for 15 minutes like on a trail. I tried to reproduce it in my driveway when I got home and it worked fine for 20 minutes.

My X3 was one of the early models that came with no grease in the steering rack. Would seize up after running for a while.

I have been plugging a 700 watt speaker into it. I am beginning to think it has a 675 magneto and the speaker maybe sucking so much power it is killing the Electric DPS. If it is a 12V plug how do you know how many watts it is pulling. Probably a dum question but is it trying to pull to much from a 675 magneto and killing the PDS?

650 watt magneto at 6000rpm in Commander. Takes 220 watts or so to run without PS. PS adds 180w at full assist. Headlights on low adds 110 w and on high adds 220w. Add a small radio and you are maxed out. The battery is very small making it quick to realize.
Don't even think of adding much unless you install a car battery. I have a 300w lightbar and auto agm is a must on my Maverick.

Power steering went out on my 2014 Can-Am Commander twice. All I had in it extra was a two-way radio. Took it to the shop both times and fixed it under warranty. It is kinda dangerous when you have to make quick turns. You're used to easy turning, then you realize you have to grunt to make the turn.

The Commander forum has had a lot of discussion regarding the DPS. There was a serious problem with the 2013's but I think that was fixed. There have also been some issues with the rack. Is yours new, if so I would think it is the too much power issue.
