Which dash mount unit can be programmed to the frequencies of the handheld FRS/GMRS radios? If the adapter was available, would sxs riders want a helmet com for their dash radio?

Any that works from the frequencies of 462.5625 to 462.725 can be programed if you have the software to do it. As for a helmet com, I might be not sure.

I have found a local company who can make a plug adapter for a dash radio that will allow a helmet com to fit it. I realize many sxs drivers do not wear a helmet. This adapter would allow me to put a dash unit in my atv drybox and have it hardwired in and greatly increase its capability compared to the handheld radios.

I don't think the plug in adapter would be that much of an issue. The issue is the headset. That is always the awful part in my opinion.
On WVSXSRiders there have been many threads of people selling the radio's. I remember a kenwood model that was running approx $150 programmed.

I could lift my ATV when the trail got crazy tight and I had to turn around. Hard to do that on a SxS. Sometimes talk is useful. It also is good for letting me know we are detouring by a Chinese Buffet!!

If anyone needs a 2 way radio, Craig (Killlerskunk) on WVSXS has one for sale, everything including and even programed for $170 plus shipping. He is a good guy and takes care of his stuff so I am sure its a good radio.

KillerSkunk in Hickory posted his radio with mic, speaker, and mount fully programmed for $170 -- that is an incredible deal.
Allen -- you need to log on to WVSXSRiders and nab that one. That way you can tell me when a trail looks scary.

I bought one this weekend on eBay for $95 plus and antenna cost $25-$40. I had mine programmed for FRS/GMRS channels 1-22. It appears that the most popular model is the Kenwood TK 840 Type 1. That is what I got. The Type 1 is the one for the frequencies we want. You want the frequency range in the 4.62 range that Daryl mentioned. Have them program it for the 22 FRM/GMRS channels. It comes with an internal speaker that is on the top. Ken mounted his upside down so the speaker was facing down. I got and external speaker for $10 at T/A Truckstop that I will mount above my head. The radio has an external speaker jack.

I just ordered it, won't get it until Tuesday. I plan on mounting the radio in the center top, either to the roll cage or from the roof. I am not sure about the antenna but I am thinking in the bed up against the cab. Trees and branches prevent putting it on the roof or on the hood like a car. Might try putting it sideways inside the back of the cab. Will experiment with a couple of options and will post pics.

My speaker points down but it still wasn't loud enough for me so I got the external one from a truck stop also and mounted it over head facing me. I now have no problem hearing the radio at all. I also got a retractable mic holder that I use which makes it easy to grab the mic and just let it go to hang back up.
