Friday---- I arrived at Hilltop Friday morning about 8:30 -- Bob T, Greg W and his son Joseph were there. Alan S & Randy also come up Friday morning.
Bob took us to Sophia via tracks he received. Some nice trails but lots of road riding and bob will remove those from the tracks on the main map. We had a nice lunch at the chinese buffet in Sophia.
The ride back was mostly trails through the barkers creek area and back to hilltop for dinner.
Saturday--- Larry M and Eric C. came up Friday night to ride with us Saturday. We left hilltop and rode to Matoka -- where we met a guy Bob T chatted with on a forum. He took us through some local trails over that way -- some of which we rode on Friday, but a nice time. I am forgetting his name now but it was nice of him to take time to show his local trails. We offered for him to ride over by us sometime and we would show him some trails we ride by Hilltop.
I will let the others add some more detail ... like holding some of the bikes with a rope on a nasty spot... etc....

Good weekend ride. Again I'm amazed by 16 yr olds on 2 wheel drive ATV's. The group split off Saturday evening and we decided to try a trail that was unknown. I was leading and the trail got really nasty. I stopped when I realized I had passed the only way up a rough hill that required a turn. Looked behind me and there was Joseph holding the brakes on his 2whl drive Honda. All I could think was WOW -- I was borderline uncomforable on a long-wheelbase 4x4 and here was a 16yr old on a 4x2 Honda. Anyway -- that trail was a dead-end that required a turnaround. My helmet head was sweating after that turnaround. Joseph definitely earned some stars on that hill!!
The highlight of my weekend was that hill and the Chinese Buffet in Sophia. What a great Buffet! Crowded at 3pm on a Friday...

On Thursday afternoon Greg, Joseph, and I rode the trails on the other side of Wagon Wheel Road at the end of the Power Line trail that you take down from Pinnacle Beach. We rode up to the Water Fall and took the trail that goes North into the woods across from Riders Paradise. On the way back we decided to take the trail that goes from the road just past the stairs/crumpler rd/hilltop rd that goes down to Soggy Bottom. It is a green trail 90% of the way then a nasty red for 100 feet, we turned around. Very steep and rutted.
On Friday we went to Sophia via some trails Al had given us and a few I had drawn. The mistake was getting near Odd, they were all paved roads. We did take some nice rocky trails. We connected with the back side of Burning Rock near the tunnels. We took a trail that Allen and Randy had ridden before, I also got it from Al. It is probably a blue except for that 30 ft of red. We got to practice our Moab rope system. We had to tie off the front of 3 machines to get them up without flipping back-wards, one was a 2-up (not mine, I went first and made it). On the way back we took the trail that some of us had taken where we came out on road and went right instead of left. Well that trail has totally changed with a lot of logging but we made it.
On Saturday we met "Racer37", Ritchie in Matoaka and he took us on some trails North of Matoaka. Some were the same ones I had gotten from Al and we rode on Friday. He did show us a shortcut for the never ending blue trail we rode. He showed us a lot of trails that need exploring, we were in a hurry to get to Sophia so we did not do much exploring. We went by the BIG Xmas Tree farm. On the way back Tom, Larry, and myself did some exploring and took a trail that I had always seen that when going from the Stairs to Hilltop starts about a few hundred yards past the NG pump and goes back to the right. It is probably a blue with a tinge of red in a couple of spots that ends up in Crumpler.
The trail from the Stairs to Hilltop is an Interstate. They even smoothed out the trail that goes around to the left of the Stairs.
Jane and Barbara (Glen's wife) ran the restaurant this weekend. Carol is coming home next Wed or Thur. Theresa is going to go up and run the restaurant next weekend. Jane and Barbara cleaned it like it has never been cleaned before.
