My son an I went up and rode the new RZR XP. Stayed at the Ashland Resort. There were very few people at Hilltop, and one of them told us that the restaurant was closed and the showers were closed.
Friday 7-29
We rode the creek trail and the bypass on Friday. Met up with some mud riders and rode with them for a while. The RZR XP performed great, and the ride is really nice. At one of the really large mud holes, there was a deep rut with walls on both sides that went around the mud holes. We got to a point in the rut where there was a tree on one side and a stump on the other and we could not get through, had to back out and go another route. Other than that one spot the RZR XP went everywhere.
Saturday 7-30
We rode the Indian Ridge HM trails to the connector up to the Pinnacle Creek system and then on to Mullens. We rode up to the end of Trail 19 in the northwest corner of IR and then the connector is Trails 27 to 20 on the Pinnacle Creek system.
On the way back we took a different route once we got back down to the IR system, we jumped on the haul road down to the trail back to Pinnacle campground. When we were about to turn off the haul road onto the trail, this mining guy came flying down the hill and slid sideways in his truck to cut us off. We were with a couple of other people from Charlotte on dirt bikes. The guy in the truck told us to turn around and go back the way we came. We told him that we were taking the trail and he got pissed and told us to turn around! So we just ignored him and went on down the trail toward the Pinnacle campground and on back to Ashland Resort.
Sunday 7-31
We got up and rode the trails up above Jake's Grocery for a couple of hours. Then we headed back to camp and packed up and headed home. A great weekend of riding!
RZR XP Report
Like I said above, there was only one spot where we had to go another route, and I'm not sure if a RZR S could have made it through that spot either. The power of the XP is incredible. It screams up hill-climbs with ease. Most of the ruts on the hills can be straddled by the XP. The suspension is very forgiving and soaks up most anything you throw at it. It's very stable even at high speeds. I'm glad I went with the XP, I wouldn't hesitate if I had to do it again. I'll be glad to answer any questions if anybody is thinking about pulling the trigger on one.
