I have had this idea I wanted a back up light on my 4 wheeler that came on when I put it in reverse. I figured I would go with a led light as to not pull much power for light produced and take the beating and banging pretty good.
I aint not electrical engineer by no means, I know septic systems. I am thinking you could splice off the reverse indicator light on the dash i guess you would call it and use it to activate the light.
I am just seeing if anybody has already done this no means in reinventing the wheel if its already done.

I had one I put on my Grizzly. Its very simple to do actually. You have to find the wire for your reverse indicator light and spice a relay into that. Then pull your power for your reverse light from the battery. DO NOT PULL POWER from the light indicator. Thats what the relay is for. If you do it like this everytime you put it in reverse it trips the relay and that will turn on the light. Very easy to do and safe.

Just remember you really don't need a extreme amout of light to see ( since your eyes are adjusted to the dark ) . Well worth the time to put one on that is for sure ( I have backed into many trees at night .

Any kind of special relay that you suggest, I feel pretty confident in doing it, I have put my winch on and put a switch on my handle bar headlight so i can cut it off indepent of the other lights on the front, a must for night riding with cooler, dear etc on front rack.

Just look at the amp draw of the light you buy and match that , don't forget to put a fuse inline for safety ( direct short like hitting something that grounds out the light ) .

You can find a relay at any auto parts store.....and 100% you do need an inline fuse!

Below is a website that all sorts of interesting stuff for Polaris ATV's. They do have a backup light kit. Polaris's have two white work lights on the back and this turns them into backup lights. www.quadovator.com/Bob
