I saw these tires, and have heard soem good things about them from other people, I know they are radials, and a heavier tire. I have heard they can rob some power from you. Just wondering if anyone had dealth with them or used them. Maxxis Bighorns, I cant have mudlite xtrs like everybody else ya know.

They are great tires for trail riding. They are heavy so they do rob some power but any tire you get oversized or 6 ply is going to be heavy and rob some power. They are not the best in mud but probably the best on the trail. I know you said you don't want XTR's but they have been my favorite tire so far.

I know adam likes his xtr's, I just want something that is gonna be goos, but not too rough. The stock tires I Have pulled thru some mud before, I just get high centered and no tires help that. I want a good ride and good wear, I know not one tire will do them all, but Id rather have something that is good and durable over its mudding capability, I am tired of cleaning all the mud out, done bogged it out in a swamp earlier took me 3 hrs to get all the mud out. I think there is a another brand a terra cross that is similar.

I rode with a Rincon that had Maxxis Big horns , he loved his stock radial and said they rode just like the stock radial but gave him more side grip on the side ( made him pull up the side of banks some times ) . I did notice that they did not do well in Sand at all , he sunk like a rock and was really trying to baby it thru the sand , but everthing else I give them a thumbs up as a trail tire ( he is not a mudder at all ) . It planted the power to the ground well he said , before he would spin , the Maxxis made him grip the ground better.

Lonnie has some very good tires on his, I forgot what they were, but they have agressive tread, and have lasted with very little wear. Ask him what his are, you might like those better.
I have tried Maxxis, I like the mud lites better. my 2 cents

I run mudd lites , like them , great abrasion resistance , not good on loose rock , great in reg mudd but not a true mudding tire , I would call it a trail mudd tire . As for XTR I really don't see the need for a radial , kinda overkill on money with not a lot of gain . I'm not for positive but most radials do not have the same ply in the side walls ( Bias you do ) , so if the XTR are 6 ply it would only be in the tread patch , Mudd lites you would have it to the seal ( better protection from side punctures ) . Either tire will do the job , it is really just how fat is you wallet , and how much do you want to spend .

Dead link Mike , but if you like you stock tires , Bighorns is probably a good "next step up" tire . I allways seem to end up in mudd but like you I like the water better . Mostly I wanted to be able to go thru most of the things I come across and the XLs were a lot of tire for the money , and Radial were exta weight that I did not need .

I would definitely recommend getting six ply tires if you do not get radials. The softer factory tires are much harder on the arms when riding for a long time. They make the quad harder to turn because they roll so bad.
I have Mud Lites and I think they are one of the best non-radials you can get. However, if you do go with Mud Lites make sure you get the 9" wide tires on the front like Brian has on his Kodiak. They wear much better because the tread pattern is different in the middle of the tire.
Also the 10" tires grip the sides of ruts REALLY bad. Bad enough that you really have to be careful if you do any extreme riding, especially when going down steep hills where the trail is rutted real bad. The side tread on the front tires will grab the edge of the ruts and possibly wreck you if your not careful.
Another tire you may want to look into is the Swamp Fox. Jason had them on his Foreman and Michael currently has them on his Foreman. Both of those guys love them and they are quite a bit cheaper than MudLites. The thing I don't like about them is if you order 26" tires for front and rear, the narrower front tires will be about an inch taller than the rears for some reason. That can't be good for the drivetrain when in 4 wheel drive.

That's not good , all should be the same , might be why they were cheaper .
