What's everyones thoughts on using a synthetic with a belt drive? Just bought a new Wolverine which is now belt driven, first belt drive so just wondering what everyone is using.
I know to avoid the "energy savers" other than than anyone using a synthetic in their ATV?

I have tried just about everything in my Grizzly just to see if any of them help with it using oil. Seems to be a problem with a lot of the Grizzly's. Jason's Grizzly also uses oil and I have read about many other people's Grizzly's using as well.
None of them seem to make any difference so I think I am may stick with one of the synthetics to help the motor run a little cooler. Any little bit has to help, it runs pretty damn hot.

Does the belt run in the oil? So i'm assuming its a wet belt? If the belt runs in the oil then you probably don't want to use just any synthetic, you need to use a synthetic that is made to work with a motorcycle wet clutch system because automotive oils have friction modifiers that could cause your clutch/belt to slip. I use Mobil1 MX-4T in my 300 but I don't have a belt, I have a wet clutch like a motorcycle.
If the belt doesn't touch oil then its not gonna matter what kind of oil you use. From what I understand most of the belt drives are dry.

I can speak for the Grizzly and the kodiak, the belts are dry......BUT there is a wet portion to the clutch that most people don't know about, its behind the primary pully.

All Polaris Sportsmans use synthetic 0-40w. I use Mobile One. As said earlier, I believe all belts systems are dry. The oil is only for the motor. What does the manufacture say, I would use what he says.

That means yall can use automotive synthetic oils, where-as us guys with a wet centrifugal clutch on the semi-auto atvs have to be careful because the synthetic oils for cars and trucks may cause it to slip.
