I've watched this YouTube video like three times and am hooked. I want to do this Idaho trip in 7 days. 8 Day Circling the Frank Idaho TripLarry - Definitely going. Has a truck and 20ft trailer. Taking SxS Tom - Definitely going. Has a truck and 20ft trailer. Taking SxS Nelson - Definitely going. Looking for someone to ride to Salmon, ID with him. Taking a SxS Charlie - Definitely going. Traveling from the West. Taking a SxS Carver - Definitely going. Taking an ATV Scott - Interested Tom has booked rooms for 5 people. He will cancel rooms if not needed. Idaho trip GPX tracks and waypoints are attached. The GPX file has 62 waypoints and 7 daily tracks. I've come up with an itinerary with places to stay at the end of each day. Day -1 Sun, August 22 - Arrive at Syringa Lodge, Salmon, ID (208) 756-4424. Tom and Larry will arrive on this day Day 0 Mon, August 23 - Arrive at Syringa Lodge, Salmon, ID (208) 756-4424 Day 1 Tue, August 24 - 90 miles from Salmon, Idaho to Wild Game Inn near Montana Painted Rock Lake and state park (406) 349-4263 Day 2 Wed, August 25 - 128 miles from Wild Game Inn to Elk City. Stay at Elk City Hotel (208) 842-2452) Day 3 Thu, August 26 - 132 miles from Elk City to Riggins, ID. Stay at Salmon Rapids Lodge (877) 957-2743 Day 4 Fri, August 27 - 122 miles from Riggins to Yellow Pine, ID. Stay at Yellow Pine Lodge (208) 633-3377 Day 5 Sat, August 28 - 98 miles from Yellow Pine to Stanley, ID. Stay at Triangle C Cabins (208) 774-2266 Day 6 Sun, August 29 - 112 miles from Stanley to Challis, ID. Stay at the Village Inn (208) 879-2239 Day 7 Mon, August 30 - 81 miles from Challis back to Salmon, ID. Stay at Syringa Lodge (208) 756-4424 Total of 763 miles. Yeah, I'm in for sure if I can take that much time off. I plan on contacting this group, I see they have multiple big trip rides on YouTube, a couple of them in Idaho so I'm sure we can get some good intel. Maybe even join their ride if they have one planned.

Aren’t you doing Colorado later this year? That’s a lot of trips this year.

With my fear of heights, I'm thinking the Alpine Loop will not work for me. The Idaho trip doesn't have the dramatic change in elevation. So, I'm out for the Alpine Loop.

Watched the video a few weeks ago and thought this would be awesome. Only a few hour drive from my house. I would be game. Watching the video there are a few days where they only covered 70miles/day. Which I think could be extended to shorten the trip by a few days. The other thing we were in McCall late June27th and ran into a few drifts that were impassable. Might want to think about doing it a little later. Also it was pretty warm in McCall. Lindsey and I were in shorts no shirt and sandals.

What a combination. Yeah, I was thinking we could drive same route and not have to camp overnight. We'd stay in real accommodations each night. Larry no reason to buy a trailer to tow. There’s people camping out in WV now with just simple stuff.

Nope. Won't be winter camping. I'm rethinking the campground camping. I have now found accommodations at the end of each day of the trip.

Scott - I checked how to get to the cities that have SxS rentals. This is what I found. To get to Coeur d'Alene, ID Fly into Spokane, WA Drive by car from Spokane, WA to Coeur d'Alene, ID 40 miles Rent SxS Drive 185 miles on roads to Circling The Frank (CTF) trails No gas to the trails To get to Cascade, ID Fly into Boise, ID Drive by car from Boise, ID to Cascade 78 miles Rent SxS Drive SxS 36 miles on roads to CTF trails No gas to the trails To get to Nampa, ID Fly into Boise, ID Drive by car from Boise, ID to Nampa 19 miles Rent SxS Drive SxS 143 miles on roads to CTF trails No gas to the trails Getting gas is a major concern. The only towns and communities we come near is Salmon ID, Riggins ID, Stanley ID, and Challis ID. These are tiny towns. Larry |

Early on, I checked on flying into Salmon, ID. There is a puddle jumper that will take you from nearby major airports to Salmon. Cost is $1,500 for up to six people one way. There is a SxS dealership in Salmon, ID called Wild Side Sports, but they don't rent SxSs. Bummer.

I was planning on doing some of these trips this year but some events have happened in the last few weeks that will keep me from doing much this summer until August when I will retire. Hopefully you folks will do some more next year and I will be in for any trips that look like fun to me. Good work on the planning part Larry, should be a lot of fun.

I have not been on a big trip in a while and would be interested in Idaho. Camping on the trail a night or two would be fun.
