Bob T spoke to Allen regarding the purchase of his 30' trailer. Many of you are familiar with this trailer which has made multiple trips out west. It can carry a minimum of 3 side by sides, more if some are turned sideways.
Currently the club has $1412.00 in cash. The only items we have used funds for over the past 3 years are for the Christmas Party food.
Allen has agreed to sell us the trailer for $1400.00. This would make it available to all club members for big trips. We would ask for a $100 fee each time the trailer is used for registration and property tax fees. Also to put away monies for tire replacement when needed.
Post up your thoughts about this purchase so we can make a decision shortly.
I am for this purchase as I think it will be a great asset considering all the Big trips we do as a club.

I'm all for this. My SxS has been out West on this trailer twice in the past.

The trailer will have to be registered to some entity. TTB is not a Corp.

Alien is giving the trailer away at $1400. Would be foolish to say no to club buying.
The issue i see is whoever uses it would need to put their trailer tags on it. No way to register it as a club. A club member borrowed it from Allen once and had a wreck - this made me realize stupid liability laws that made the owner of trailer responsible for something they didn’t do. I’m ok with putting my tags on it but I realize some people aren’t comfortable with that.
It’s a great trailer. Tows easy and could easily be towed with 1/2 ton as long as it has 3 sxs or less on it.
I’m for club buying. Where’s it gonna be kept?

I think it’s a great idea. Although, Randy pointed out a few items that need to be considered. Anyone’s personal liability is something that should not be shared.

Allen built the trailer. Bob did the electrical wiring and lights. The calculations below are curtesy of Randy. This is the trailer leaving Taylor Park, Colorado on our 2014 trip.

I believe liability in the case of an accident goes to the towing vehicle insurance - not the trailer owner/registrant. Is there a spare tire? The price sure is right.
I just googled it and it appears most towing vehicle liability insurance policies will cover damage to other vehicles/persons when a trailer is borrowed. However, damage to the "borrowed" trailer (in this case TTB's trailer) is NOT covered. It was suggested the borrower get a short-term rider to cover the trailer, but another person in the forum stated that insurance companies will not insure something for damage that is not owned by the borrower seeking the short-term insurance. If the TTB trailer is borrowed, sounds like liability may not be an issue, rather the damage done to the TTB trailer would have to be the responsibility of the borrower.

Figure out the details and go for it. Just an idea but we can rent it out sometimes.

Nelson -- and everyone --- Just spoke to my insurance agency -- here is what I found out
1. Any borrowed trailer will be covered by the towing vehicle's Liability Insurance if there is an accident. (note: this is only for personal insured vehicles, not commercially insured trucks)
2. Whoever holds the title of the Trailer will have NO personal liability if the trailer is involved in an accident.
3. Any insurance to cover damage to the trailer would need to be covered under a separate policy. I am not sure we would want to spend this money --- unless we choose to rent this trailer out to others outside of our current circle of members.
4. Any Side by Sides or 4 wheelers on the trailer that may sustain damage in an accident will not be covered unless the owner of that machine has a policy that covers damage during transportation.
Wanted all of you to have this info to digest before we make a final decision.
It appears that so far all have agreed to the purchase ... we will wait a few more days to make any final decision allowing others to post up their thoughts.

The whole time it has set in my yard it has never hit anything by itself. it has to have a vehicle and driver to make it cause property damage. :)so I believe reliablility should be on tow vehicle. Oh by the way it does come with a spare tire & rim. PS. I vote yes also. I kno how much $ went into it.

Sounds like we have a consensus.
Give Allen the $ before he changes his mind.
Also the pic is Bob’s. He prepared that for first trip to Colorado.

*** TTB Will be Purchasing the Trailer from Allen for $1400 ***
1. Allen has agreed to keep the trailer titled in his name 2. Allen has a Permanent Tag on the trailer now 3. The club will pay for the Property taxes each year - Allen will advise amount and when due 4. Allen will also keep the trailer parked at his house - those who will use it can pick it up there and return it when finished 5. Allen will have first choice to use the trailer when Big Trips are planned: Others need to post up or send me a PM if you want to use the trailer 6. The Trailer shall only be used by one of the current members or if a current member is going with it. We will not rent it or loan it out to others outside of our current circle of members 7. Those who use the trailer will be required to put in $100.00 for future Tire replacement / Maintenance
Let me know if any of you have questions.... Tom
