I was hoping the members of this group (specifically Mr. Bob T) could give me some pointers/suggestions on what to look for in a tablet for my UTV. I know nothing about them, so specific brand names and models would be much appreciated when you make suggestions. I've been using a Garmin GPS and want to transition to the larger screen. Important items for me are size, availability of a waterproof case, and external charging, etc.
Thanks in advance!

I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2017 ver) with Backcountry Navigator and BobT maps. Haven’t been able to find a waterproof case for it though. Good unit nonetheless.

Lenovo Tab 4 10” for me. It’s in a cheap Ebay rubber case. I tape over all buttons before putting in case. Not waterproof but it handles WV great. Rock solid and runs one of newest versions of Android.

I didn't ask about mounts. Do most use RAM? Also, are there any issues with low reception/loss of reception that would require a booster of some sort? We ride in McDowell Co. WV, as I'm sure most do. Have you have any issues with low signal?

Tablets use built in GPS. No signal issue.
Also I usually use a ram ball mount. Depends on your specific machine.

I use a Sony Expedia tablet. Good reception is the norm.

Thanks very much everyone. I’ve ordered the Galaxy A 8” and I’m looking forward to installing the apps and maps. I’ve also got a Ram mount an otter box on the way.

Just WiFi is fine. It does need to be a tablet Witt built in GPS. Most Samsung and name brand tablets have GPS.

Good Morning, I have a Samsung tablet coming today and want to set it up. I have read various post on this site with several file formats and maps. Can someone send me any links or additional information on how to set up and use the maps on a tablet? My email is scott.kisner@gmail.com Thank you all very much. I look forward to meeting some of you on the trails. I will be riding the Tuesday after Easter. Scott

As I said in an earlier post, I purchased a Samsung tab A 16gb for use as a gps. I've installed ORUX maps per the instructions from Bob T and I've downloaded all necessary files, etc. My problem is that I'm working through the instructions to make offline multimaps and the downloads using the map maker tool aren't going so well. Can anyone give me a round about total for the number of tiles to include in a single download? I'm trying to create offline multimaps showing the entire WVa Trail system Bob T has mapped, but numerous tiles don't download each time I try. I am selecting the last 3 or 4 levels, as instructed in the multimap directions, but I keep having this problem. The only workaround I see is to have many, many, many small maps of 500 to 800 tiles. It seems that once I get over 1000 tiles, i start to get the error message that tiles failed to download.
Any help would be appreciated.
