What oil are you using it the Rzr. For each model year?

Just buy Polaris extreme. I know after my issues I don't trust any oil. Polaris extreme is high zddp and that might help. I've used Mobil 1 0w-40 and had issues. It's likely not the oil but excuses are plentiful with Polaris junk.

I've used Castrol the whole time I've been wheeling, in the motorcycles, and all of our vehicles. Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Honda ATV's, The Vulcan, Pontiac, Chevy, Dodge, Troybilt, etc. Never had a Polaris though.

I've used everything under the sun in my off road items since my first dirt bike in the 1970's. No issue on any of those. Only Polaris have I had engine issues.

I've use mobile 0-40 in Polaris the 12 years without issue. This has been in Sportsmans, not RZR...

David, ignore Randy. I have always used Mobil-1 0-40 and most people do. A lot also use Rotella T6. Both can be purchased at Walmart or any auto parts store. A lot cheaper at Walmart.

I fundamentally agree with Bob. The only issue is that Mobil 0-40 or any newer auto oil is they are SN rated and have very low ZDDP. If you putt around it will stay at the 40 or so rating but becomes thinner if driven hard (oil temp 300F from extended high rpm runs). I am thinking that is where my issue has come in on multiple Polaris engines. The oil thins and offers very little protection. Also at high rpm's for extended periods the air box builds up a strong pressure and lets very small dust in. The thinner oil make a film smaller than the dust and the lack of zddp adds to the issue.
The recommendation from SwingArm on RzrForum as well as Alba Racing is oils that have ZDDP - like Joe Gibbs XP7. The Polaris oils also are high ZDDP. Note that Polaris introduced the "Extreme" due to issues with motors at high rpm wearing prematurely.
If you intend to ride slow and enjoy the scenery then I really think any oil is fine. I don't really know what's right but I've spent a crazy amount of time since I have had two xp 900 engines (second was new crate engine from Polaris that started buring oil at 2600 miles) consume oil and the quantity of them on rzr forum is really large. I now have a third engine to install and on it will use a high zddp oil and likely will change the intake to a ump. Im sure Ive just had bad luck since some that dont even chck there oil (like Ken) burn none. Then again Ken has used the Polaris oil the entire time.

As a sidenote I've had Canam , Honda, Arctic Cat, and Yamaha ATVs and Sxs also. I spent lots of times on their forums and there is no one that makes a living rebuilding those engines on their forums. It's rarely needed.
On rzrforums there are three that specialize on rebuilding and replacing engines. It's too common. The issue started with the original Rzr.

My theory on oil is that its not supposed to be a consumable so why check it! As a side note however, I just checked the oil in my sons Cummins motor and found it to be low.....a full gallon low! Yes, a gallon. The full engine takes 10 quarts! Gonna have to have words with the boy!

Killis don't check oil. Like father like son. Does that BMW scooter burn oil? Curious since the M series cars do.

Randy's point is well taken. I will go with a highZDDP oil.

I would not trust any 0 weight oil in a high stress, heavy load application. Does polaris really spec that for a sxs?

The Extreme is the newest Polaris oil. Good stuff with plenty of zinc. Polaris specs a 5-50 oil but recommends the extreme 10-50 for high temp riding. The 5-50 PS4 was having issues with wear in the desert. I am using Motul 10-60 on current engine until I swap it. That oil is recommended for BMW M series that burns oil. Using Attachments:

And the Motul does not meet that spec so I add 600ppm additive. Doesn't really matter for my engine since it burns some oil.
