I installed it on an old Samsung Galaxy S2 I had laying around and it looks pretty good.
I've decided to give it a try as my gps device since Garmin has pissed me off again. I've got a smoke'n deal on a used Montana 650! lol!

I'm interested in seeing it. I can get a Nexus 7, ram mount, and wiring for under $200 total so it's not a bad choice. I'm not caring for my Garmin 5" cheapo since it's a PIA to clear tracks.

The rugged case availability is what is really driving which 7 or 8 inch tablet I decide to go with. I like the Otterbox and Lifeproof but I don't think either is available for the Nexus unless I missed it. I really want to do the ipad mini with a Lifeproof but our resident map making expert has been slacking off with porting his maps to iOS!

No case needed. The Garmin's are fairly waterproof without a case. I'd figure the nexus is too. I will seal off the speaker, headset port, and control buttons with clear gorilla tape. Water can then only enter through the edge of screen or charge port and that will stay plugged in when in use. I'd bet that will last many years in a SxS. The clear gorilla tape is tough and does not stand out. The buttons can be taped over and still work well.

Garmins are definitely waterproof, nexus.....not so sure. I'm more worried about dust and dirt on the screen and then scratching it beyond recognition.

With a SxS I'm not sob worried about screen. The nexus has a glass screen doesn't it?

Looked it up and Nexus has a scratch and smudge resistant screen.

Nexus 7 uses gorilla glass. That's far better than the cheapo plastic that garmin uses.

I put the disposable screensaver on my Garmin because of that

Golden Crack video -- I thought the crack was deeper...
I'm gonna try Android maps on a Nexus 7. I have been ordering the stuff for the several days. If I don't like it I'll go back to my old Nuvi 550.
Allen -- you working out a good way to get us to Colorado or wherever for this late summer or early fall?
