Thoroughly enjoyed the New Year's eve/day rides this past weekend. The best part was there was no dust what so ever. Second thought, the best part was the camaraderie around the camp fire. Watched football and stayed warm by the fire. The worst part was that Wake Forest lost in the bowl game.
A couple guys like the Christmas present that I bought for myself. It was a hand mirror that you strap on your glove. I bought it at Cabela's. Here is the link to it.
On Friday we rode over to Mullens and explored above Mullens behind the Subway. We found a lot of very nice trails and did not ride them all. The picture below shows where we rode. The blue loop on the left I got from a guy called Slopoke and the one on the right is what we rode. The turquoise at the top is Twin Fall State Park. I drew the little connector between the two blue loops.
On Saturday we rode to China Buffet via the tunnels. Allen got stopped by a sheriff on the way to get gas. There is a new sign on the little rode to east of the road the gas station is on that says no ATV's. He told Allen that we can't ride on the streets but that the mayor says it is OK. What we did is ride the west shoulder of the main road to and from gas and this is probably OK.
On the way back we did some exploring and found a very nice new trail through the woods that comes out a little past the boat.
We then took the creek back to Beartown Ridge and road up that long hill in the dark. When we got back we drank 12 year old scotch, shine and beer. The weather could not have been better for this time of year.
I agree -- great rides on Thursday and Friday when I rode. Thursday we explored near the airport road in Welch. Very interesting since hired local security guards were blocking some trails due to a $2million transformer waiting to be installed. I am really interested in more explorin near Mullins soon...
The weather was nice -- highs in upper 40's to low 50's. Melted the snow that was at Hilltop Thursday morning.
Larry liked the mirror I made and tradedhis for it. Now I will make another. Sun Lonnie, Larry and I rode the new Pocahontas trails and saw Coop and William in their sxs. Larry went back when the rain started. Lonnie and I kept going for a 60mi day. The weather report was for 6 "snow Sun night so we left Sun pm. Roger said today they have 1" and temp of 20 with lots of wind. Sat was a 96 mi day to Sophia with lunch at the China Buffet for kitty fujung!
The weekend went well for me, I was not much company Saturday night as I had been up since 4 o-clock and was give out. Sunday was great since I figured out what may be wrong with my ride. See you all at the meeting.
Your never to old to enjoy life, go out and do something fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
