To start off, who did I pass going up fancy gap in a white dodge 2500 with a TTB sticker in the back window?
Got to hilltop around 10am and was greeted with a sprinkling of snow and 19ish degree temperatures. Undeterred we unloaded and hit the trails. Buddy was riding a sport quad so the creek trail was out. We went down windmill gap road and picked up HMIR trail 13 and proceeded to follow it to 16-19 then hit Black trail 81 which didn't seem to black other than about 100 yards of rocky downhill near where it meets back up with 19.
Got down in to northfork and hit the connector trail. It was in great shape and some sections had been recently groomed so you can FLY on it if you want too. After crossing the haul road we ran into a deer next to the trail and in the process of running away it plowed headlong into a tree. Couldn't help but laugh, PETA be damned.
Got down to tiny's and headed up the back trail to the view and then up the back to the top. The only way up left is up around the back as they have bulldozed the entrance to the other climbs. After that we headed to welch for a late lunch around 145. They have bulldozed a significant portion of the trail that leads to kfc and it is a muddy, sloppy mess right now.
Came back and did the trail above pinnacle to the steps bypass and then finally back to hilltop just as the sun went down around 5pm.
We were planning on riding some today, but when the morning came it was about 17 degrees, windy, and snowing lightly. So we packed up and came back about noon. Was a great 70 mile day on Saturday.
