Well Larry M, I, Greg W, his son Joseph and Allen S went up friday morning. It was raining and cool and I skipped the ride on friday - but they said they had a good time except for some real nasty trail just before they got back to the campers. I will let one of them fill in all the details for Friday.
Saturday was beautiful - Cloudy but warm and no rain. it was Me, Larry M, Gerg W, his son Joseph, Allen s, Teresa ramsey and Ralph (joined this past tuesday). We had a great ride on some known trails and some new ones but all were very nice. We had a nice slow pace and enjoyed the day. Lunch was in Bramwell at the cafe which was excellent - I recommend it to all of you to try as a change from Norfolk, Mullins or Pineville lunch optiions.
late in the day Larry, Teresa and Ralph took a short route back and the rest of us rode some hatfielf McCoy trails through Ashland campground and trails back up to Hilltop. as I said earlier was a great day.
We all left saturday night ---

As usual, Greg W did a great job leading the group most of the way on Friday (4/22/2011) and Saturday (4/23/2011). Greg, his son Joseph, Allen S, and I (Larry M) rode on Friday. We took the trail to Jake’s Grocery, got on the CanOver/HondaOver trail, and then got on the Hatfield-McCoy trails to Northfork where we ate lunch at the Coffee House. By the way, the Canover/HondaOver trail was even smoother (greener) than two weeks before. The berm that Theresa flopped over on was bulldozed away. On the way back, Greg took us on trails that I’d never been on. We took the H/M trails to trail 80 and trail 42. We then took a muddy unmarked trail to Windmill Gap Rd. We went South on Windmill a bit and then Greg led us on another new trail (to me). The trail entrance is just before the cutoff to Belcher cemetery. The trail took us to the paved road to Hilltop where there are pipe looking guardrails are on the right. We took a trail just past the guardrails which took us to soggy bottoms. I was leading by this time. I was sure I knew where I was. I was very wrong. I thought I was on the trail that took us to the Pump Station. The trail got very scary just before we got to Hilltop. On this trail, there was a large flat rock on the left wheel side and a large tree on the right side of the cliff. You had to put your tire on the large rock to get past the spot. Five more feet in front of you, you had to go up a left angle 8 feet nearly straight up. Without a doubt, if the ATV faltered at all, you’d go backwards off the cliff. It was the only spot where even 15 year old Joseph hesitated. Bob, I’m going to send you that day’s track, but I’m editing out this part of the trail. I don’t want to do it again….ever.
On Saturday, Greg took us to Bramwell, WV. With us were Greg, Joseph, Tom, Allen, Dean D, Theresa, and the new guy Ralph. I was a little worried about Ralph, but he seemed to be just about as expert as the rest of us. Theresa too. We ate at the Bramwell Café which was very, very nice. Too nice for ATVer’s but they let us in anyway. After lunch, we got a tour of an old time fountain / old time drug store right next door. They were doing some renovation work there. They weren’t open but they let us look around inside anyway. On the way back, we got lost. It was a good kind of lost. We came up on some dead ends. One dead end was the Wall Cemetery. Another dead end took us to a fast flowing stream. Across the stream was a paved road. Neither Greg nor I could figure out what the road number was. We finally found our way back to Windmill Gap road. At about this time I lost my back brakes for the second time. Dean had fixed it the first time just before we got to Bramwell. Because I had no back brakes, I took Windmill Gap rd all the way up and onto the hardtop to Hilltop. Theresa and Ralph followed me. The rest of the group rode another two hours on trails.
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Can’t wait to do it again.

Thanks Larry. By the way you need to quit saving your tracks, it truncates them to 500 points. Your gps will automatically start a new track each day and then you just download them, they are called active tracks.
You need to describe better where the scary place was, I want to avoid it.

I already removed the scary part of the trail from the gps track I posted. You are right, I need to stop saving the tracks and just download the Active tracks. I'll try to remember next time.

The ride was great , I still have a little over heating problem to dill with but Tom gave me a great ideal and that is to get a 12 volt pump to spray my radiator out with . I went today to tractor supply and got some of the stuff to get started with.I was trying to figured out the name of that little town, it is a great place! I am not that into antiques but that place is great! the buildings , the architecture and even the street lamps are soooo cool. everything is at lease 100 years old. WE need to go back when everything is open ,up and running. they are gearing up to cater to atvers. I also learned not to get to close behind Joseph ,you WILL get mud on you,I got it 3 times and I am still on a learning curve. ;D ;D ;D

Larry, you should have left the trail in so Bob could mark it difficult then it could be avoided in the future if so desired. Where did the trail come out? If it’s the one I’m thinking of it’s definitely got some pucker factor.

I like your thinking Wiley. Those pucker factor trails need to be checked out...

Next time someone goes to hilltop can you asked about my helmet. Joseph took it off my 4-wheeler when we were loading. I think it was beside a tree behind Lonnies trailer. I called Carol, no luck there. I also called Henry and left a message, no call back yet. This is a almost new scorpion Helmet.

Larry, you can just attach the files to your post, you don't need to put them on a file sharing site. You can attach most files except .exe's.

Wish I could see that file. I'm thinking it's the trail I have gone down often but only up several times. If so it does have a good pucker factor.
