David, Larry, Allen, Lonnie and myself all went up Friday night, roads were fine. There was 7-8" of fresh powdery snow on the ground. Friday night the temp got down to 2 degrees. Our trailer with 50 amp service stayed a toasty 70 degrees.
Sat morning Roger and Carol cooked us breakfast and we headed toward Welch. None of us had been to Welch in a long time. We decided to take the Creeks all the way, no wimpin out and taking the by-pass.
It was ICY! There was ice on top of the moving creeks and we had to bust through it at every crossing. One crossing had a Large tree fallen across the exit side. While in the deep icy creek we hooked up a couple of winches and pulled it back into the creek. Thank God wood floats. We would had to have back tracked a long ways.
We had lunch at the Drive-Inn. We then headed up behind the Bowling Alley and got some nice views of the prison. We took a trail down to Hwy 16 and then took a trail up into the woods that connects to the Welch Trail from the North. We did learn that the law is that you have to ride on roads 5 mph below the posted speed limit or a max of 25 mph. I will let Lonnie and Larry give more detail. Suffice to say, when you are riding 45 mph down a highway look and see if there is a cop behind you.
I think it was definitely the prettiest winter ride I have been on. The trees had several inches of snow on them and we rode up some pretty tree covered trails. We were dressed and did not get cold, the temp got up to about 30 degrees.
We got back Sat night and Roger and Carol fixed dinner. Allen went home Sat night and I came home Sun morning. Larry, Lonnie, and David went for a ride today and I am sure they will post on it.
