I called the Arizona Game and Fish Department at (602) 942-3000. I explained that I am a North Carolina resident and that I can't get a SxS vehicle title nor a North Carolina license plate. I explained that I have already purchased an Arizona OHV decal. I asked where I should put the decal if I don't have a license plate. The person said to affix it to the left rear quarter panel; that I don't need a license plate for a non-resident from a state that doesn't license SxSs. This makes so much sense. Larry M What Larry was told adds to my confusion.

Here is an email I got from the coordinator of the AZPT. As he says early on you do not need a plate to ride trails only but later says to ride on county roads and pavement you need to have a license. The AZPT goes through several towns. We will go into Kingman, Saloma, Yuma, Quartzsite, and Lake Havasu City (big town) The trail goes through these cities and they are where gas, food, and motels. if you went for just a one day ride you could avoid county roads and pavement.
Bob,
License plates are only required on county maintained roads and pavement. If you plan to ride the trail segments of the AZ Peace Trail you will be fine with simply purchasing a non-resident OHV decal by clicking this link and following the step by step instructions that I've attached. However, the only way to plate your vehicle would be to register, title and insure the vehicle here. To do that you would need to have at least a part time residence here to be able to use that address to register your vehicle. Another option to be able to ride the entire AZ Peace Trail would be to rent a vehicle here in AZ to use as it would be registered and plated here. I hope this information helps. If you have additional questions please let me know and I'll be happy to help. Take care and ride safe. 2 Attachments Bob Titzer <bobtitzer@gmail.com> 11:31 AM (39 minutes ago) to Matthew Thanks for the reply. We only plan on riding the AZPT but it does go through some towns. We will be going into towns for lodging, food, and gas. Is this OK with you?. I have also heard that if you have a New Mexico plate that AZ will honor that.
Thanks for your quick reply.

336-858-0887 Matthew Eberhart 11:37 AM (33 minutes ago) to me Bob,
In order to drive into most towns you will need to be street legal. If you have a plate from another state we do honor them. In addition to a license plate you will also need the items listed on page 6 & 7 of the attached brochure to be street legal in AZ. Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you.

That SD tax requirement for tag is crazy complex. A Dealers sales order showing taxes paid is not enough proof. That’s nuts..,

You're right, Randy; however, there is a form on that site that allows you to download a form that your dealer fills out stating that they collected the taxes from you.

Correct Nelson.
My dealer is in Lowell NC. Not really close.
Allen’s is in Tennessee.
This is complex only if you have problems with a dealer that’s not local.
Unnecessary complexity was my point.

There is a very valid point for this.

You can email it to them and they can mail it back. Quicker and easier than me taking it to my dealer.

It looks like everyone is good for the end of March (Ken has not confirmed) Below is the link to Daily rides and motel options at night. I have arbitrarily Chosen to start riding on Monday, we can change this to any day. We just need to pick a date so we can book motels. Everybody should chime in with their opinion. It looks like things are getting nailed down. Only unresolved issue I see is how Davvy, Nelson and Lonnie are going to get there. We have two options assuming Allen is going. He can carry 3 machines maybe. If he goes and no one else Larry and I will go with him. If others firm up then me and Larry will ride together and others can ride with Allen. We need firm commitments and no late cancellations.
I will get hotel availability and pricing this week.

I’ve looked at hotels and looks like a lot is available. I’m trying to book the Choice hotels ones (Quality, Comfort, etc) since those are points I have. Some places I’m not sure of exactly- example on 31st Yuma has more available. My bag fit the roundtrip won’t be too much. Likely a 20L or so drybag. Floorboard in a sxs will hold easily.

The Quality Inn in Kingman is really close to our truck parking

I went ahead and made cancellable reservation at Quality Inn Kingman Route 66. I tried to do others on the route that are Choice hotels. I can always cancel if not needed.
Join Choice Rewards and they are normally pretty good on cancellations.
