Guys,
I want to provide an update on the Midland MXT100 mobile radio. I've taken it out on the trails two times so far. I'm very disappointed to say that the volume was so low, with the engine running, that I couldn't hear anything. Only after stopping and letting the engine come to idle was I able to hear anybody. The Volume control goes from 1 to 15. Even at 15, I couldn't hear anything with the engine revving. The built-in speaker specs say 8 ohm and 4 watts. Any decent FM radio speaker is 300watts. With only 4 watts, the MXT100 mobile radio is not even usable. I tried using an external speaker. The MXT100 has a 3.5mm external speaker connection. The volume output was marginally better. That was not good enough. I'm thinking about trying helmet speakers next. I could also try using amplified speakers. I'm just so disappointed with the Midland radio that I may just give up on it.

Sounds like it just needs a good external speaker. My Motorola is only good with external speaker. Hopefully you can find one.

Agree with Randy on external speaker. Any truck stop has several to choose from, that is where I got mine.
