Well, I guess I'll start this report since I was the first one to have to come home.....'cause I was the first one to have mechanical malfunctions! >:(

Lonnie, David and I met at the rest area on 77 around 1pm on Thursday and headed north. We made our usual stops in Wythville and rolled into Hilltop right on time. We setup camp and went out for a little 15 mile ride. The weather was great although a little dusty at times. We went out and down the mountain towords the gopher path (or goat path, depending who you ask ) and went down to the gravel road and turned left and went poking around over there for a while. We explored some trails we hadn't been on before and a few of them were really nice. We unfortunately kept running into down trees, and since we didn't have any chain saw toting SxS's with us we were force to abandon our exploring mission and head back to camp. Next was dinner in the resturarnt.....burgers of course and the biggest dam dish of chili-cheese tots you ever seen!!!! Have I told you that Carol's chili cheese tots rock?!? After we ate it was off to the fire with a few cool daddy's and nice cigars before tuning into bed.

Friday morning started with breakfast in the restaurant and the news that a bear had ripped open Rogers garbage cage on the back of his truck overnight.....Beware the bear! Lonnie, David and I headed off after talking to Joe Parker and finding out he wasn't going to be up till about noon. We set off down to the steps, Wagon Wheel, Creek Trail up through the back side of the View. Weather was actually hot at time and dust could get annoying in spots. We had wanted to go exploring over around the View area and started poking around on different trails.....ran into, and over a good size black snake and ran into more down trees. We had just come up on a pretty steep but good looking trail and decided to stop for a break and walk it to make sure it was worth tackling.....thats when my problem's started. Seems the Cam-Am didn't want to stop. When I would turn the key off the engine would shut down, but the starter would continue to crank.....turn the key back on and it would start but the starter was still cranking. We tried all kinds of things to get it to quit, but no dice so we decided to head back to camp and see if we could fix it. The machine ran fine and made it back under its own power, but unfortunately it burned the starter up before we could figure out how to stop it. All in all though it ran continuously for about 3 hours while we rode back to camp and did do about 1/2 of a new girly trail we found! ( we'll need to go back and check that one out again! ;) )

About 1/2 way back we ran into Joe P. and he came back to camp with us. Turns out he got up to Hilltop and assembled that giant tent thing that has been sitting there forever......BY HIMSELF! Way to go Joe.....you get the special TTB Tent Salute from all of us! ;D

After figuring out my ride was toast and I was done for the weekend, we setup the grills under the newly constructed tent and had a awesome cookout....corn on the cob, cheese and crackers, tater salad, macaroni salad, green salad and STEAKS! Then it was quite a few more adult beverages and a nice camp fire in the newly modified burn barrel ( we can thank Joe for that too! )

Saturday morning we got up, had a good breakfast and I loaded up my junk (with some help since now it wont start) and waited for the rest of the crew to show. I stuck around for a bit to talk with everyone and then hit the road as they were getting ready to go ride. I shot down the mountain to KOA and dumped my tanks and then headed for home.......stopped by Lake Norman Power Sports to drop off my broken wheels and then on home.

Even with the problems it was a great weekend. Cant wait to hear how everyone made out Sat. and Sun and get to do it again.

My pics are in photobucket and remember, if anyone else has pics they would like to share and have linked to the website please put a copy of them in the folder I created.

Ken, just a FYI about your tanks. The Flying J off Exit 77 (same exit the Wilco is on) has a dump station if you ever need it.

Unfortunately Ken's machine became a Can't-Am Fri but not until it got him back to Hilltop. That is the way to do it. Ken missed a fast 80 mine day to Welch and around that area. We also went by to see the trailer spot of our newest members the Coopers. I wound up with 180 miles for the weekend. The radio headset worked all weekend but it did not get wet.

Hated to see Ken "pack up the Can" and go. but didn't think him riding on the back with Lonnie was gonna be a pretty site.
Had a great time being the "FNG" with this group. The marathon ride to Welch for chicken was long and dusty, but fun.
Sunday was a "Laid Back Lonnie" ride. Thanks for leading, My tired bones needed a rest. Some great trails that I haven't ridden before. You guys know that neck of the woods.
enjoyed it.

Ken, I bet it was fun getting your rig up there to Hilltop. Did you go in from the KOA side I guess? KOA charge you to dump?....or free with the KOA card?

Sorry to hear about the Bomb......it's never any fun when they let you down. Glad it made it back to camp, that is a big victory!

No Matt, getting into Hilltop isn't all that bad. I've had the it up there a bunch of time and the only thing that bothers me is that there's a few low hanging trees that rub the side of the trailer right in front of the resturant.....but besides that its not a problem. Going down from Hilltop to KOA wasn't any problem either, matter of fact I will probably go in from the Montcalm side now even when staying at the KOA. I offered to pay them to use the dump station since I wasn't staying there and they wouldn't take any money......said not to worry about it which was nice of them.

Hold on a minute, this will have to go before the Home Owners Ass. for a review and then a vote by the members first. Also a fee of $500 dollars will have to be paid before we will even consider this proposal. ;D

I was just being nice -- don't take it too serious. I parked there Saturday morning and it was like I murdered someone.

Let me restate my position on the spot in front of the Chateau:
As long as my Dodge is not there then you are welcome to park there. If you offer me a cold beverage I might move it but other than that just find somewhere else. I was just in a good mood on Saturday and did not mind moving. That may not always be the case. >:(

Is that better???? ;D

Now that I think about it I might want to go ahead and rent that space from Roger and Carol. I'll pay the $900 and put a fence on it. Then I can control who parks there and when. The more I think about it the better it sounds. Heck I might get one of those shipping containers and put it there so I can leave my Cat or the Can-Am up there. That's a real good idea!! I bet I can fit two of those containers there.... ::)
