Yeah, I got my neoprene gloves for duck hunting....more specifically putting decoys out and retrieving them. The deal is that you use them for the decoy mission, then remove them and put them in your blind bag or in the boat somewhere. I've tried keeping them on and hunting and my hands freaking froze everytime I tried that. Pull them off and put on a good goretex glove and you're fine. The newer gauntlet goretex gloves would probably be fine for getting supmerged and not getting wet. The older ones I had when I duck hunted a lot were not.
I'd go with a good goretex glove and you'll be fine for hooking up a rope the atv. Just have a good spare pair.

From what I have both read and tried, neoprene make your hands sweat and don't keep them warm in WV winters. I have also read a lot of reviews on the sealskins not doing well.

Jay and Darryl M purchased some SealSkin like gloves from Bass pro (or somewhere like that). They were warm initially in water but real cold after riding for a while.

Yeah, I will try Sam's, and Bass Pro to see what they have. The problem I am having, is that the stores around here gear them selfs for the area.
Sooooooo, not to many real cold clothing gear down here. I had a hard time getting us the gloves I wanted, I even went to Bass Pro, to get Duck fowl waterproof gloves....and that was not a go. I was lucky, to get what I wanted in a dive shop. I want to be able to stick my arm totally in freezing water and not feel it, if I was to get stuck.
Can anyone recommend some type of warm riding gear for Karen? We will be in our 5mm chest waders, but I forgot to get her a warm jacket? I wear Artic Shield, but I don't have anything like that for her, and I don't think I will find anything like that down here in SC. I am thinking it will be pretty cold up there, or should be ready for it if it is? Something that would run pretty true to size, since I will most likely have to order and have it shipped to me.
Rory, Bass Pro Shops should have everything you need right there in Myrtle Beach.

Can't go wrong with a Gortex ski coat, if not Gortex than any good quality ski jacket works great. And like Randy said, I would go one size bigger for layers. DON'T FORGET waterpoof gloves, two pair really!

Go to Sams Club and see if they still have the Weatherproof brand jackets (they are fairly thick and available in black or orange). They are around $34 and do a pretty good job. Buy one of those 1 size large and layer it with a Long Sleeve T (or Thermals), Long Sleeve Sweatshirt, and then the jacket. The Jacket has decent water protection but if you spray it with Campdry or another waterproof spray (available at any sporting goods) then it does excellent!
Sams also has a neoprene type Weatherproof brand jacket -- do not buy that one...

Re: 2010 Mid-Size Ranger 400 « Result #12 on Dec 18, 2009, 10:29pm »
Seems I was mistaken , it was the older 500 they ran against the 400 ( talked with Shane when I was up there today ) , my opps ( should have know better having had a 800 ) . I'm pretty impressed with my 500 , it just lacks torque for hill climbs but has plenty for most of the trail riding I do .
It's Polaris's version of the Rhino 450. Not enough cc's for the weight. Would be fine for the occassional bale of hay...
Victory motorsports raced the 400 against the 800 in the parking lot ........ the 400 won in that short a distance .
Chad? I should have asked him while he was there. He was working on a RZR while I was there. Had to pull the whole engine and trans out to service something on it. The frame cages around the powertrain so you can't do a whole lot to it without pulling it. He said they were a pain to work on. Too bad because the RZR is a cool vehicle.

Really no , cause if you notice he has to clutch it to get it to spin, those were not really power spins but Clutch drops ....... useless power , might as well buy you a Subaru Brat and have AC .

Re: 2010 Mid-Size Ranger 400 « Result #21 on Dec 16, 2009, 11:14pm »
The Polaris Ranger 400 has a 450 cc engine that has nearly the same power as the 500 HO. The big reason for the midsize is the ability to haul in the back of the pickup box. It fits between the wheel wells.
Since the ranger 400 is a midsize it makes it more manuverable. I think it would hand a trail pretty nice. Polaris does a great job of clutching these machines to really pull (grab) in the low range.

I talked to the H/M service line today. There is a typo on the website so the permit is for 2010. They said they were going to call me for a shirt size.

What my wife sent me « Result #28 on Dec 16, 2009, 3:16am »
Below is the text of an email my wife sent me. I think I need to get home.
AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES
1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.
2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY USING THE SINK.
3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.
4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.
5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.
6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.
7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
DAILY THOUGHT: SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Richard, yes there is safety training. Yours should be free if you bought the can am new. Your son may be able to get in free too. I am sending your email address to a guy in the CLT area who teaches the class and he also teaches kids how to ride dirtbikes at any level.

Just looked it up: $50. Weren't they more like $35 last year? Heck, I never seem to ride on the HM trails when I'm up there anyway, but I guess it is good to have just in case we connect or cross over.

Hi everyone! I just purchased a new Can-am 2 seat ATV, and bought my 12 year old son a small Honda dirtbike. I live in the Charlotte, NC suburbs. Is there any type of riding safety course or school somewhere nearby that we could attend to learn safety? We're both new riders. Thanks for any help!

I ordered mine and the order last page said the permit expires Dec 31,2009. That better be a typo. I am calling them tomorrow. The email page was for the free shirt and 2010 permit.

Looked on the H&M site and did not see any info that mentioned the free shirt. Is it in the latest newsletter? My email changed so I do not think I am receiving the emails...

Outdoor Channel is on while surfing the net and "Destination Polaris" came on. Not sure how I let that propagandized informercial crap come on without me changing the channel but oh well. Just kidding.
Anyway, it looks like they are using this mid-sized platform for the Ranger EV. It is an electric SxS. Should be a cut above the golf cart type 4x4 buggies. I'd think it would be mostly hunting and farm related. Also campground duty, but probably not trail worthy. Does 25 mph on the top end which isn't bad, but not really for serious trail riding. I'd hate to run out of juice an hour from camp in WV too....not like you can get a gas can and fill it back up after hitching a ride. Anyway, thought it was worth mentioning.

My name is Eric Deans and I have been looking for an ATV club to join. I have been on the website and I am very interested in joining. Hopefully, I can make it to a meeting soon. I live in greenville, NC so I would defintely have to plan to come. I have read the requirements for membership. Is there anything else I need to know. Any help would be great.
Thanks
Eric - There aren't any real requirements besides attending an initial meeting. We do require that you attend one club meeting to meet the group, but after that the meetings are optional. Once you join you'll receive the passwords to the members only section of the forum....thats where all the good stuff is!
The next meeting is January 19th at the Golden Corral at the Hanes mall. Meeting starts at 6:30p but there are usually people there before that.

Nelson, he wasn't real big. We didn't have a scale over there, but we estimated him around 150#, maybe a little less. He was a young deer. Not likely over 3.5, maybe even 2.5. It was a quick decision. Quartering away in the woods and he was looking at me over his back. Beam looked about 4" outside his ear at that angle. He ended up only being about 16.5" wide. He scored 119 5/8 B&C.

You guys arent useing any of them ratty 'ol Dell junkers are you?
I am, but I use what the company buys me so it is hard for me to argue. Decent machine but my old Thinkpad was pretty bullet proof for a long time....like 6 years I used it. This one is barely over 2 yrs old.
Been with IT some today and he was on a project for a while so someone else ordered my notebook. Didn't order it with enough memory and a smaller hard drive. He's getting me new memory.
I'm still not sure that will cure the ills on this site. Some weird stuff lately.

Since we are talking virus etc...
Just wanted to mention...DO NOT buy "Finally fast.com" aka as Asentive
it works great at first, but is a software loaded with spamming... They keep trying to up sell you and if you don't buy.. your computer is infected big time...
I had to redo my entire computer and remove that crap a couple of months after buying it.
AND... they billed my account again this year!... I currently have it under credit card dispute...

Looks like someone has attached a bug/popup to the members side. the company is igauard/pc. its getting in front of the members screen and looking like a virus hit when its a scam for a virus protection program. My AVG didn't get a hit or my Road Runner filter but it pops up and looks like an infection. One of you Admin. Computer type Gurus (Ken) need to Nix this thing off the site.

Matt - where is TN? I'm in Nashville for the week.
About 40 minutes South on I-65. I take my customers out in Nashville when I'm at the plant all the time. Excellent town! Make sure you go to Tootsie's before you leave town. It is on Broadway. You'll always see a young up and comer in the country music scene there. It is a blast whether you like country music or not. .....of course I am in hog heaven when I'm there!
Ping me next time your going to be up here if you have time and maybe we can get together for dinner. I've been pretty much living here for the last few months. I'm usually at the Vanderbilt Marriott on West End.
